Nose bleed remedies

To stop a nose bleed — as everyone knows — it is necessary to apply pressure, though the technique is important. The nose should be pinched forcefully between finger and thumb and held in that position for at least ten to fifteen minutes. For those prone to recurrent nose bleeds, the blood vessels on the inner surface of the nose need to be cauterised.

While waiting for this procedure to be done, it may be sensible to purchase a swimmer's nose clip. Dr Philip Turner explains: This can be left in place for as long as necessary without causing too much discomfort. It does not cause the finger aching so common with manual compression. It is equally effective in children and adults and well tolerated by the younger patient.'
